New Project - Les Zonards -Oct 2018
This month i am launching a new little band - Les Zonards. It is aimed at capturing the musical flavor of the "lowest of the low" that camped on the outskirts of Paris from the 1840's through the 1940's.
DjangoFest Northwest, Langley, Wa - Sep 2018
I went to DFNW over in Langely on the Friday and Saturday of the event. Peggy, Al Bergstein and I went over on Friday, djammed a little bit on Friday afternoon and went to the Cyrille Amiee /Henry Acker concert that night. Did a bit of djamming the next day and went to the Gonzalo Bergara concert in the afternoon. Fabulous. Followed up with a dinner at the south american restaurant and a jam with Al and Trevor Hanson.

I've Got a New Baby (maybe) - Dec 2017

I spent last weekend looking at new guitars. I stopped by Michael Horowitz's shop and test flew a number of Selmer-style guitars (i.e. Gypsy). I found one l loved. It is a Dupont MCD-50. It's a completely different sound. I still love playing my Gretsch Sal Salvadore archtop. But the Dupont is a completely different animal and opens a door to a different kind of playing. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but I'm close.
New Sparring Partner - 2017

I've been playing weekly with another Olympic Peninsula guitar player, Trevor Hanson. He plays weekly on Monday at the Alchemy on Washington. We're working on some double lead stuff, some Calypso-style tunes, a smattering of Gypsy tunes and some bebop numbers. Not ready for prime time yet but we're working on it.
Swing into Spring - May 2016

I will be playing at the Cellar Door and Wind Rose Cellars this month and at PT Brewing on June 1st (details on the right). Also, I'll be attending the Vintage Jazz Workshop at Centrum at Fort Warden in Port Townsend with a bunch of my pals. It will be led in part by my friends Julian Smedley and Cyd Smith. Should be a hoot!
Mid -October 2015
Ketchikan, AK
Up in Ketchikan on a project. I met up with Ray Troll, famous fish artist. I had dinner with his wife Michelle and some of his pals from the Ratfish Wranglers, his rock band. What a hoot! We played a few tunes after. But mostly I listened to their wild lyrics about the lives of fishes and other undersea pals.
Later in the week I got together with one of Ray's friends, Karl Richey. Besided being an ER doc, he has a little jazz club on the main drag in Ketchikan. The club was closed that evening but we jammed for a couple of hours. Fun. A few days later I joined him and some pals for a blues jam. Blues is not my usual suit of clothes but we managed to butcher a few tunes with great vigor.

I had never played a gig with Ron Peters and had never met Craig Buhler but we tore it up at Wind Rose. Ron's single note work and fine chord melodies blended great with Craig's clarinet, flute and Alto sax solos. We ended most tunes laughing we had so much fun. What a great crowd, too.

My CD, "Transition Point" was featured as the lead-off introduced tune on Jim Wilke's show. He played the Horace Silver tune "Senor Blues". Musicians on the tune were Bill Anschell on piano, Cary Black on bass, Mark Ivester on drums and Jeff Busch on percussion.

We had a great gig at Wind Rose Cellars in Sequim, WA. Lovely crowd of old friends and new. There were even a few dancers. Jim Oliver was smokin' hot on guitar solos and Dirk Anderson was laying down some tasty arco solos on the big bass. We look forward to returning there again in the near future.
